Pairing the Remote with the LED Light Strip

Updated on Sep 21, 2025

If your LED light strip is stuck on white, will not change colour, or your remote control does not seem to do anything, the most common cause is simply that your remote and light strip have come unpaired. Re-pairing your MSpa remote with the LED light strip is a quick and simple process you can complete in just a few steps from poolside.

This article applies to MSpa models that include the colour-changing LED light strip — including the Oslo, Denver, Rova and Aurora.

Step 1 — Check the basics first

Before you pair, please run through these quick checks. In our experience, most "remote not working" calls are resolved at this step.

  • Make sure the LED light strip is connected to the spa control box and that power is on at the wall.
  • Check that a CR2025 battery is installed in the back of the remote. Remotes do not ship with batteries installed, so this is the first thing to confirm on a brand new MSpa.
  • If the battery has been in the remote for some time, please replace it with a fresh CR2025. A flat or weak battery is the most common cause of intermittent remote behaviour.

Step 2 — Pair the remote with the LED light strip

With the spa powered on, the LED strip lit up, and a fresh battery in the remote:

  1. Stand close to the spa so the remote can communicate clearly with the light strip.
  2. Point the remote directly at the LED light strip.
  3. Press and hold the COLOR- and BRIGHT- buttons at the same time.
  4. The light strip will respond — your pairing is complete.

Where the COLOR- and BRIGHT- buttons sit on the remote

The remote is laid out in three rows of three buttons. The two buttons you need are both on the middle row, on the left and right of the centre MODE button. The minus sign (-) tells you it is the lower of the two COLOR or BRIGHT buttons in each pair.

Row on the remote Left button Centre button Right button
Top row SPEED+ DEMO SPEED-
Middle row (use these to pair) COLOR- MODE BRIGHT-
Bottom row COLOR+ (white) BRIGHT+

Press and hold the two highlighted buttons together until the LED strip responds. You should now be able to change colours, modes, brightness and effect speed as normal.

Step 3 — Backup pairing method (older Oslo and Aurora light strips)

If the COLOR- and BRIGHT- combination does not pair on an older Oslo or Aurora light strip, please try the alternative method:

  • Unplug the LED light strip from the spa control box for 5 seconds, then plug it back in.
  • Point the remote at the light strip and press and hold SPEED+ and SPEED- together for 5 seconds.
  • If pairing still does not complete, unplug the strip again for 5 seconds, plug it back in, and try the COLOR- and BRIGHT- combination once more.

Step 4 — If pairing still does not work

If your LED is still unresponsive after a fresh battery and both pairing attempts, the issue is most likely with the remote, the light strip itself, or — less commonly — the connection at the power cord between the strip and the spa control box. Here is how to narrow it down:

  • LED is always on and won't respond to the remote — the remote controller most likely needs replacing. Please run the pairing steps one more time first to be sure.
  • Only a small section or part of the strip is out — the LED light strip itself will need replacing rather than the remote.
  • Both parts appear fine but won't communicate — although uncommon, this can indicate a loose connection at the power cord between the LED light strip and the spa control box. Power down at the wall, check the connector is fully seated, and try pairing again.
