How to disconnect your control unit without draining your spa (caps & stoppers explained)

Updated on Jun 10, 2026

One of the most common questions we get asked: "What do I do with the caps and stoppers that came with my spa?"

Here's the good news — on frame and verto series MSpas, those caps and stoppers let you disconnect your control unit for cleaning, servicing and maintenance without draining your spa. Pop them into the inlet and outlet valves, and the water stays right where it is while the control unit comes off.

⚠️ Important — read this before you start.

Do not do this on Comfort, Premium or Muse series MSpas. On any spa where the control unit sits within the liner, do not remove the inlet and outlet valves until the spa has been completely drained.

Which spas can use the caps and stoppers?

This works on the frame and verto series MSpas: Oslo, Rova, Denver, Mono, Duet, Naval, Tuscany, Tidal and Cocoon. Watch the video that matches your spa below.

When you'll use this

Being able to take the control unit off without losing your water is especially handy for the preventative maintenance we recommend:

  • Monthly flushing and reverse flushing of your control unit.
  • The white vinegar treatment for verto series control units.
  • Sending your control unit to us for service. Our assessment and repairs are typically completed within a day, and as long as the couriers and the weather play nice, you should have your control unit back within a week — with your spa water preserved and waiting.

Drying your control unit before storage

If you're putting your control unit into storage, you want it completely dry. After the flush and white vinegar treatment, press the bubble function to blow any remaining water out of the unit.

A friendly heads-up: please don't point the unit at anyone when you press the bubble button. 🙂

Packing your spa away? Dry everything first

This applies to all of our portable spas. After your spa has been drained, and before you deflate it for storage:

  1. Use the control unit (or a blower) to blow air through the bubble curtain, removing as much moisture as possible.
  2. Check the control unit and the pool liner are completely dry.

Do not pack up and store your spa pool if there is any moisture left in your control unit or pool liner. Moisture trapped in a packed-away spa is the fastest route to mould and damage.
