Real experiences from real Kiwi families — this is what portable spa ownership looks like.
When Amanda's family of seven got their MSpa Mono-Eco 8, she wasn't expecting to be writing a glowing review less than two weeks later. But after seven days of daily use, she picked up the phone to share what she'd discovered — and it's the kind of feedback that tells the real story of what a quality portable spa can do for a family.
Here's Amanda's experience, in her own words, along with everything you need to know about the MSpa Mono-Eco 8.
Heating Up Fast — and Running Costs That Surprised Her
One of the first things Amanda noticed was the speed of the initial heat-up. Raising the water temperature by 17 degrees from the first fill cost just $11 in electricity. From there, she's been spending $3–$4 per day to maintain the temperature — and that's straight out of the box, without a thermal cover yet.
"The power is a fraction of all the previous spa pools from Bestway that we have had," she told us. "Huge difference in the running costs for our MSpa vs previous spa pools. Well worth every dollar."
That tracks with what we know about the Mono-Eco 8. Its enhanced insulation is designed specifically to retain heat and reduce energy consumption, making it one of the more economical large-capacity portable spas available in New Zealand. With a thermal cover (which Amanda has already got her eye on), those running costs come down even further.
The Mono-Eco 8 heats at approximately 1–2°C per hour, and Amanda also noted how quickly it reheats after use — something families get through the spa frequently will appreciate.
Bigger Than It Looks — A Family of Seven, Comfortably
This is the one that genuinely surprised Amanda.
"It's so much bigger than it looks on the outside. We as a family of 7 fit all in with space to spare."
The Mono-Eco 8 is built to seat 6–8 people, with 8 padded base seats and approximately 1,200 litres of water capacity. So while it might look like a compact portable spa from the outside, it's engineered for larger groups — making it one of the few portable spas genuinely suited to bigger Kiwi whānau.
Three Bubble Speeds — Including a Feature That Made a Real Difference
Amanda's family has neurodiverse children, and she highlighted the three-speed air bubble system as something that stood out for their household.
"With a family that has neurodiverse children we can adjust to suit the needs of my children."
Being able to dial the intensity up or down — whether that's a gentle setting for sensory comfort or full power for a proper hydrotherapy session — means the spa genuinely works for everyone in the family, not just some of them.
One thing worth knowing: the bubble system turns off automatically after 20 minutes as a safety precaution, with a 10-minute wait before it can be reactivated. Amanda initially thought something was wrong, but found the explanation clearly outlined in the manual. If you like a longer soak with continuous bubbles, it's worth being aware of — and it's a safety feature rather than a limitation.
Everything in One Place
Amanda mentioned something we hear from a lot of MSpa owners — the convenience of being able to source everything through Portable Spas New Zealand.
"Anything you need for your spa can be purchased in one place. Our next purchase will be the thermal cover. And definitely would love to get some furniture for around the spa. So convenient."
From spa chemicals and water care products to thermal covers, filters, and accessories — we stock what you need to keep your MSpa running well and looking great. No hunting around different suppliers or waiting on international shipping.
On Error Codes: The Manual Is Your Friend
Amanda encountered an F1 error code one evening when she went to get in — and didn't realise it until that moment because there's no audible alert. She mentioned that a beep notification when an error code appears would be a useful addition.
It's honest feedback, and worth sharing. The good news: she was able to resolve the issue quickly by checking the manual and the Portable Spas New Zealand website, and our team was on hand to explain what had triggered the code.
If you encounter an error code on your MSpa, the support resources at portablespas.nz are comprehensive — and our team is always available to walk you through it.
The Verdict After One Week
"Our family love the spa and use it every day. And will definitely recommend anyone who is looking for a spa to put your faith in MSpa and purchase. So happy to be joining many others on their spa journeys."
That's Amanda, one week in, with a family of seven who've made their MSpa a daily ritual.
