Spa Pools for Flats, Tiny Homes, Townhouses and Baches

Spa Pools for Flats, Tiny Homes, Townhouses and Baches

At a glance

  • Every model in the MSpa range runs off a standard household power point, fills from a garden hose, and packs back into its own box.
  • Footprints fit a back deck, a townhouse courtyard, a balcony, a tiny home deck, or the verandah at the bach.
  • From $949 (Bergen) to $3,899 (Oslo / Denver / Rova RRP).
  • Around $5 a day in summer, $7 in winter to run. 12-month warranty. 4–5 year typical product life.

The way Kiwis live has shifted. More of us are in flats and apartments, in compact townhouses, in tiny homes parked up on family land or a paid site, in the bach we finally bought a stake in, or downsizing once the kids have moved on. The shape of the home has changed; the desire for a warm soak at the end of a long day hasn't.

The MSpa range was built for that change. Every model in it is portable, runs off a standard household power point, fills from a garden hose, and packs back into its own box if you ever need to move. The whole range fits the kind of homes most of us actually live in — back decks, courtyards, balconies, tiny home decks, bach verandahs — in a way a traditional spa pool simply can't.

This guide walks through the full MSpa range we sell at Portable Spas New Zealand, what each model is best suited to, what they cost to run, and what renters need to think about. Specs, prices, and figures throughout are from our current product range and Portable Spas New Zealand documentation.

Why the whole MSpa range fits small NZ homes

Three things sit across every model in the range, and they're the reason the line was designed in the first place.

Small footprint

From 1.6 m square (Oslo) to 2.04 m round (Bergen). Fits a deck, courtyard, balcony, tiny home deck, or bach verandah.

Standard plug

Every model runs on a 220–240 V household outlet. No electrician, no hard-wiring. Garden hose to fill.

Genuinely portable

Drain, deflate or disassemble, and the whole spa packs back into the original box. Fits in a car boot.

That foundation is shared across the range. The differences sit in build quality, feature set, and look and feel, which is where the right model for your home gets chosen.

The MSpa range, by tier

We've grouped the range into four tiers below. Every model in every tier still fits a small NZ home; the choice comes down to budget, design preference, and the features that matter to you.

Tier 1: Entry portables

Your first spa — the most affordable models in the range.

These are built for first-time owners and customers on a tighter budget. They look like traditional inflatable spas because that's exactly what they are — sturdy, well-made, and ready to go in the same 10–15 minute setup as the rest of the range.

Bergen Portable Spa at Portable Spas New Zealand

Bergen Portable Spa

$949 NZD
  • 4–6 people, 2.04 m diameter (round), 27 kg empty, 930 litres
  • Self-inflates in around five minutes at the press of a button
  • Childproof cover included
  • Standard 10-amp household outlet
Tekapo Portable Spa at Portable Spas New Zealand

Tekapo Portable Spa

$1,099 NZD
  • 4–6 people, 1.85 m x 1.85 m (square), 26.5 kg empty, 930 litres
  • Self-inflates in 5–10 minutes
  • Childproof cover included
  • Standard 10-amp household outlet

The Bergen is round and forgiving in odd-shaped spaces, including balconies where a square footprint would push into a railing. Worth knowing: the Bergen's 2.04 m diameter is actually the biggest external footprint in the MSpa range, because the inflated outer walls add room around the seating area. The Tekapo is square and tucks neatly against a wall or fence. Same internal capacity and water volume as the Bergen.

Tier 2: Smart-feature portables

WiFi control and UVC sanitisation.

The Mono-Eco range is the natural step up from the entry-level spas. Three-speed bubbles, WiFi and MSpa Link remote app control, and 40,000 µW UVC sanitisation that cuts the chemical load. The Drop-Stitch-built pool liner is narrower than the entry-level construction, which means the Mono range actually has a smaller external footprint than the Bergen or Tekapo, and the build is materially more durable. Both models inflate in 15 minutes and run off a standard household outlet.

Mono-Eco 6 at Portable Spas New Zealand

Mono-Eco 6

$1,699 NZD
  • 4–6 people, 1.73 m external / 1.63 m internal diameter (round), 0.65 m tall, 930 litres
  • Empty weight 26 kg (pool), with a detachable 11 kg controller
  • 220–240 V household outlet, 1,500 W heater
  • Three-speed bubbles, WiFi + MSpa Link remote app control
  • 40,000 µW UVC sanitisation — industry-leading rating that cuts how much chemical sanitiser is needed
  • Self-inflating, no tools required
Mono-Eco 8 at Portable Spas New Zealand

Mono-Eco 8

$1,899 NZD
  • 6–8 people, 1.92 m external / 1.81 m internal diameter (round), 0.65 m tall, 1,120 litres
  • Empty weight 28.5 kg (pool), with a detachable 11 kg controller (39.5 kg total)
  • 220–240 V household outlet, 1,500 W heater
  • Three-speed bubbles, WiFi + MSpa Link remote app control
  • 40,000 µW UVC sanitisation
  • Padded base seating
  • Can double as a cool plunge pool in summer

The Mono-Eco 6 is the natural step up from the Tekapo: round, slightly more compact externally, with WiFi, app control, and UVC added. The Mono-Eco 8 is the larger-family option in this tier — 6–8 people seated, with padded base seating for longer soaks.

Tier 3: Design step-up portables

Looks and feel of a fixed spa, in a portable footprint.

The Tidal-Eco and Cocoon-Eco don't look like traditional inflatable spas. The Tidal-Eco is inflatable like the Mono range and has all of its features plus dedicated water jets. The Cocoon-Eco uses a high-density foam surround and, while still portable, is a step away from the inflatable build. Both are 2026 designs that signal where portable spas are going — all the features of a traditional spa, without the installation costs, and with the flexibility to move when you do.

Tidal-Eco at Portable Spas New Zealand

Tidal-Eco

$2,099 NZD
  • 6 adults, 1.73 m outer / 1.63 m inner / 0.65 m tall (round), 40.2 kg empty, 930 litres
  • Rigid Drop-Stitch Woven Fabric walls — board-like, flat, holds shape under pressure
  • 2,200 W heater, 1.5–2.0°C per hour
  • 138 integrated air jets across three intensity levels (300 W / 500 W / 720 W), three SyncJet hydromassage nozzles, 750 W pump
  • Childproof cover and insulation mat included
Cocoon-Eco at Portable Spas New Zealand

Cocoon-Eco

$2,499 NZD
  • 6 people, 1.80 m outer / 1.60 m inner / 0.65 m tall (round), 43.4 kg empty, 850 litres
  • 10 cm high-density EPE foam panel construction (not inflated walls)
  • Textile-inspired soft carpet-like exterior finish
  • Up to 38% lower energy consumption and 14% faster heating versus standard models
  • Documented as one of the quietest portable spas available
  • 2,200 W PTC ceramic heater, 1.9–2.6°C per hour
  • 130 air jets, three SyncJet hydromassage nozzles
  • Aluminium-insulated cover with TempXcel isolation
  • Two filter cartridges and 50 pH test strips included

The Tidal-Eco gives you the look and feel of a hard-sided spa in a footprint that still packs down. The Cocoon-Eco's foam surround and textile finish suit a more considered outdoor space. Both fit the same compact footprint as the rest of the range.

Tier 4: Full-feature flagship portables

Hydro jets, app control, RGB LED — everything MSpa offers.

The flagships sit at the top of the range. They keep the portable, household-power footprint of the rest of the line, and add the feature set you'd associate with a permanent spa: dedicated hydro jets, OLED touchscreen controls, RGB LED lighting, app control, and the quietest motors in the range.

The flagships are heavier than the rest of the range when empty — around 96 kg versus 26–44 kg — because they include more built-in componentry. They still pack down, still run on a standard outlet, still fit a small deck. They're the pick when you want every feature MSpa offers without moving to a fixed-install spa, and the Oslo's 1.6 m square footprint is actually the most compact in the whole MSpa range.

How to pick the right model for your home

Use the questions below as a quick filter.

How much do you want to spend?
The range starts at $949 (Bergen) and runs to $3,899 RRP (Oslo / Denver / Rova). Every tier sits in a clear price band.
Does the look matter on your deck?
If you've put effort into the outdoor space and want the spa to fit visually, the Tidal-Eco (rigid wall) and Cocoon-Eco (foam panel, textile finish) are the natural pick. The flagships also read as a fixed spa once installed.
Are noise and energy efficiency a priority?
Apartments, townhouses, attached homes, anywhere with close neighbours — the Cocoon-Eco is documented as one of the quietest in the range, and its foam-panel walls cut energy use by up to 38% against standard models. The flagship Denver and Rova also use Whispa Silent Motors.
Do you want hydro jets, not just air jets?
Move up to the Tidal-Eco or Cocoon-Eco for three SyncJet hydromassage nozzles, or the Oslo / Denver / Rova for a full hydromassage system with dedicated water jets.
Will more than six people use it regularly?
Look at the Mono-Eco 8 (6–8 capacity) — the only model in the small-footprint range built for larger groups.
Year-round use?
Every model in the MSpa range can run year-round in NZ. Optional insulation accessories — thermal cover, insulation mat, thermal wrap — let any model deliver cost-effective relaxation through winter. The Tidal-Eco, Cocoon-Eco and flagship trio come with the most insulation built in from the factory.

Renting? Here's what to sort first

A group of Kiwi flatmates relaxing in an MSpa in the backyard of a weatherboard rental at night

Every model in the MSpa range sits more lightly on a rental property than a traditional spa pool, but there are five universal things to confirm before you order.

1
Written permission from your landlord. This protects both sides. Most landlords are open to a portable spa once they see it's removable, has a childproof cover, and doesn't need permanent install. We can supply a one-page summary you can send.
2
The weight of the filled spa. A 4–6 person MSpa holds 850–970 litres of water — roughly 850–970 kg before you add people. The Mono-Eco 8 holds up to 1,120 litres. Standard residential decks are usually fine; raised or older decks, and most tiny home decks, may need a check before filling. The flagship models with rigid construction also weigh more empty — up to 96.3 kg.
3
Deck protection. Most models in the range ship with an insulation mat for the base. On a timber deck, place the mat under the spa to spread the load and protect the timber from heat and moisture.
4
The power point. You need a standard 220–240 V household outlet with RCD protection (the safety switch). Most modern NZ homes have RCD-protected outdoor circuits. All MSpa models ship with a 4.7 m power cable, so the outlet doesn't have to be at the spa itself.
5
Fencing rules. New Zealand legislation requires fencing around any body of water with sides less than 760 mm above ground. The Bergen, Tekapo, Tidal-Eco, and Cocoon-Eco are 65 cm tall — below the threshold, so the included childproof cover plus, where required, a small lifting platform handles compliance. The Mono-Eco range and flagships are 70 cm tall — still below the threshold, same approach.

Get those five things in order and any model in the range is genuinely a remove-when-you-leave appliance, not a renovation.

What it actually costs to run

Honest figures from our documentation, not theoretical ones.

$5–$7
per day to run
4–8 kWh
daily, with insulation
12 months
warranty on every model
4–5 years
typical product life

Power. A 6-person MSpa costs around $5 per day to run in summer and around $7 per day in winter. The Cocoon-Eco's 10 cm EPE foam walls cut that by up to 38%. The flagship models' EcoPulse hydromassage and TempXcel insulation also reduce daily consumption. With a thermal cover and insulation mat in place, daily consumption lands in the 4–8 kWh band for the smaller models and slightly lower for the foam-panel and flagship models.

Water. You fill once — between 850 and 1,120 litres depending on model — and treat the water week to week. A full water change every few months depending on use.

Chemicals. We recommend bromine over chlorine because it's easier on the spa liner and on bathers. The Mono-Eco UVC sanitisation (40,000 µW) reduces chemical load. Weekly water testing is essential and takes about a minute.

Warranty and life. Every MSpa we sell comes with a 12-month warranty. With proper water care and regular filter cleaning, typical product life is 4–5 years.

The maths is consistent across the range: $5–$7 a day, a bromine routine of minutes a week, and a spa that lasts four to five years. That's a different conversation from a traditional spa pool with its install costs and decade-plus payback.

Setup, pack-down, and noise

Setup runs to 10–15 minutes across the range for the actual inflation or assembly and fill. The spa then reaches a comfortable soaking temperature in roughly 12–24 hours. The Cocoon-Eco sits at the faster end of that range thanks to its 2.6°C-per-hour heating rate and foam insulation; the larger Mono-Eco 8 is at the slower end thanks to its 1,120-litre capacity.

Pack-down is 15–20 minutes: drain, deflate or disassemble, store.

On noise, every MSpa is designed for residential settings. The Cocoon-Eco is documented as one of the quietest portable spas available. The Denver and Rova use Whispa Silent Motors. The rest of the range runs in the noise range you'd expect from a standard household appliance.

Frequently asked questions

Which MSpa is the best fit for a flat or apartment deck?

Any model in the range fits the footprint. For attached homes with close neighbours, the Cocoon-Eco is documented as one of the quietest portable spas on the market, and the Denver and Rova use Whispa Silent Motors. For tighter budgets, the Bergen and Tekapo are the entry-point picks. They all run on the same standard household outlet.

Can I put any MSpa on a wooden deck?

Yes, with two checks. Confirm the deck can hold the filled weight, which ranges from around 880 kg (smaller models) to around 1,070 kg (Denver/Rova with full water and built-in componentry) plus occupants. Most modern residential decks handle this without issue. Use the insulation mat under the spa to spread the load and protect the timber.

Do I need an electrician or a special power point?

No. Every model runs on a standard 220–240 V household outlet — the same socket you use for a kettle. The outlet should have RCD protection (a safety switch), which most modern NZ homes have on outdoor circuits.

Will my landlord agree to a portable spa?

In our experience, most landlords agree once they see it's removable, includes a childproof cover, and runs off a standard household outlet. Get written permission. We can supply a summary sheet.

How much room do I actually need around the spa?

Allow around 15–25 cm of clearance on each side of the spa for entry, exit, and cover access. For most models that's a clear area of around 2 to 2.5 metres across.

What's the difference between an air-jet model and a hydro-jet model?

Air jets create a bubbling sensation throughout the spa — all entry and mid-tier models have this. Hydro jets (or SyncJet hydromassage nozzles) deliver targeted, directional water pressure for a massage effect. The Tidal-Eco and Cocoon-Eco have three SyncJet nozzles. The Oslo, Denver, and Rova have dedicated hydro jet systems alongside the air jets.

Can I put an MSpa on a tiny home deck?

Often yes, with one extra check. Tiny home decks are usually smaller and lighter built than a standard residential deck, so confirm the deck (or the ground where the tiny home is sited) can carry the filled weight — 880 kg upwards depending on model. The Bergen, Tekapo, Tidal-Eco and Cocoon-Eco are the lightest empty and the easiest to relocate when the tiny home moves. The included insulation mat spreads load and protects the timber.
